    How We Can Help?

    Teeth whitening

To whiten stained or discoloured teeth we use one of the many special types of bleach that has been developed for this purpose. The strength of the bleaching agent is chosen according to the condition and sensitivity of the teeth.

Before the teeth whitening the dentist will examine your teeth and gums since it is important to ensure the healthy condition of the oral cavity. Old fillings may need changing; carious teeth will be filled and treated.

At Odontika's vilnius dental clinic we use two types of teeth whitening:

SDI whitening system (three 10 minute sessions). SDI whitening system is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of the tooth using LED light. The procedure takes about 45 minutes and includes three 10 minute sessions. It is recommended for very discoloured teeth and is safe and effective for whitening teeth rapidly.

Tray based Opalescence (3-7 days). In this technique a plastic tray that has been fabricated to fit comfortably over a person's teeth is used. The tray’s material is soft plastic foil and is quite comfortable to wear. You will place the bleaching gel (carbamide peroxide) into the tray and the tray is then worn for several hours (usually overnight), allowing the whitening process to take place. Treatment takes between 3-5 days depending on the condition of the teeth. This type of whitening allows the patient to control the bleaching time, that’s why we recommend it for those patients which suffer from any kinds of tooth sensitivity.

How long does teeth whitening treatment take?

Teeth whitening treatment in our Vilnius clinic takes about 60minutes.

What system does Odontika use for teeth whitening?

SDI whitening system (three 10-15 minute sessions). SDI whitening system is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of the tooth using LED light. The procedure takes about 45 minutes and includes three 10-15 minute sessions. It is recommended for very discoloured teeth and is safe and effective for whitening teeth rapidly.

How long will my teeth stay whiter?

The effects of whitening are thought to last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. Ask your dentist for their opinion before you start the treatment.

How safe are beauty kiosks and beauticians?

In Europe  whitening can only legally be carried out by a dentist. Teeth whitening by beauticians and in whitening kiosks is illegal. In Europe it is illegal to supply bleaching material containing more than 0.1% peroxide (or the equivalent in carbamide peroxide) to anyone other than a dentist, or direct to the public.

These regulations are to protect the public. They make sure that anyone carrying out whitening is properly trained and has the right skills and knowledge to carry out the procedure without risking permanent damage to the teeth or gums.

How can I look after my teeth once they have been whitened?

You can help to keep your teeth white by cutting down on the amount of food and drink you have that can stain your teeth. Don't forget, stopping smoking can also help prevent discolouration and staining.

Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
